Meditation.

When we look the word ‘Meditation’; It is defined as: “think deeply or focus one’s mind for a period of time, in silence or with the aid of chanting, for religious or spiritual purposes or as a method of relaxation,” & it stems from the Latin word ‘Meditari,’ Which means “Measure.” When you hear the word meditation, you probably think of Chinese monks in robes, gurus from India Ect.ect. But, What do you hear when you think of Western Meditation? Once, the only thing we could think of was the people down at the local yoga studio doing their centering exercises. To us, this did not work. Something about sitting in quiet was simply not doable for me. I never had any success “Shutting my mind off.”

That is, until I discovered flow arts.

During my early days of flow arts, I became aware of the power of the Active Meditation. We define Active Meditation as “The practice of centering ones mind through concentrated movement art, Typically done in silence, or with minimal music.” This is our method of achieving what is becoming widely known as, The “Flow State.” Becoming aware of this & practicing daily is what we aim to impart onto you, here at Healing Stoned Movement.

Okay, where do I begin?

You see, through the a mixture of discipline to practice & dedication towards healing, anyone can reach a level of mental clarity which is essential for achieving your Flow State. Where do you begin?

  • Start by saying “Yes” more often. The most successful and happy people are also the ones who are willing to put in the extra work. The least successful & happy people are always questioning whether or not this action will move me forward or not. I assure you, wasting time thinking is about it is far worse than doing it & having it not be up to your expectations.
  • Expect Less. Expectation is a burden & the only person that makes you hold that burden, is you. In doing so, your ability to be let down becomes minimal. Approach life with a kind heart & without expectation,  good things will come your way.
  • PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE… This can not be stressed enough. Your prop is your key. Without practice, one can never achieve the PROPer understanding of ones spatial relationship between Self, the props counter weight, & the space around you.
  • Be mindful. In a broad sense; be mindful to the world around you. In a valuable sense; Be mindful to Oneself
  • Surrender to the experience. The mind is cruel in the sense that we can hold ourselves back by listening to it too often.

No Way This Can Work For ME

The most daunting perspective to have at the beginning of the adventure is; “I have so many problems, there is no way that this can work.” If this is where your mindset went, I implore you, Stick around. For we all believe that we are special in our dismay. We all like to think that our particular situation is the most incurable. But, I can assure you, the only thing special or unique about your problems is the fact that YOU are there. The problems you hold are just like everyone else.

Depression, Anxiety, Anger, Sadness… all of these are experienced by each of us, without bias. But, when we remove the depression from having not the best parents, when we get rid of the anxieties of the future which hold us back from following dreams, When we realize that the only true anger or sadness to be had in this world comes from not living an Examined life; Only then can we begin to heal ourselves.
