Who is this for, and not for?

This is for those who love camping and adventure, and who are excited by the idea conditions flirting with primitive (but with amazing food and a sprung dance floor)! If you need a plush bed and hot water on demand, consider Poi Camp at Wild Sun in Costa Rica. It’s an equally awesome event and includes optional full-featured luxury rooms! 🙂

However, this event is also for those who are comfortable with the poi basics and want to move on to more advanced techniques! (You must be comfortable with these basics, or it will be hard for you to keep up!)

Why should I go?

To enjoy developing your flow skills, eat delicious food three times a day & experience what it is like to train with the pros!

What’s lodging like?

Leviathan is RUSTIC. There are no private rooms. Most people bring tents and sleeping bags, however there is a room above the sauna with a few mattresses. Additionally, there are a couple great spots for hammocks.

Tell me more about the food!

Leviathan puts a lot of love into the food! Vegan and vegetarian dishes are served alongside organic meat (such as wild salmon, chicken raised on the property, and wild lamb or venison). All the food is cooked on a wood-stove and the kale is straight out of the garden 🙂

When does it start, and end?

You can attend either the first week June 15th-22nd, the second week June 22nd-29th or both! However, attending ONLY the second week is available only to those who have attended previous playpoi retreats before, or to those who are otherwise sufficiently skilled with PlayPoi curriculum (for instance, those who have finished the Beyond-the-Basics online course and have practiced poi fu, rhythm exercises, and footwork).

Either week you choose, Leviathan Studio will require that you sign a disclaimer upon arrival. The first meal you will have on arrival day will be dinner, we’ll then have an opening circle for introductions and finally our first poi class will begin the next morning after breakfast. The retreat ends after breakfast on either June 22nd or June 29th (depending on what week you come and how long you stay!)

How do I get there?

Lasqueti Island is 5-8 hours travel from Vancouver, including two beautiful ferry rides (cost is about $38CAD). The ferry to Lasqueti is for foot-passengers only. If you drive, you will have to leave your car at the French Creek parking lot (Parking is $5 per night). We will pick you up at the ferry terminal on Lasqueti Island. Make sure to visit the HOW TO GET TO LEVIATHAN page!

What do I bring?

Bring props besides poi if you have them! (such as fire-gear, hoops, levi-wands, juggling balls, slack-lines, etc.). Additionally, bring swim suits, hiking boots, bug spray, rain gear (just in case of summer rain), board games, and anything else that may help you enjoy ten days in a temperate coastal rain-forest paradise. 🙂

Frequently Asked Questions + Additional Information

Is there wifi?

No internet, but there is a bar/restaurant with internet just one 20-minute walk away!

What’s the electricity situation?

All the electricity is from solar panels. So charging phones is ok, but no hair-dryers please!

Are there showers and toilets?

There is a rustic, outdoor shower, and a pond. There are no flush-toilets, but nice outhouses!

What happens in case of an accident?

Lasqueti is remote, off-grid and a few hours away from the hospital, but Leviathan Studio Owner, Mark, is a trained paramedic. Additionally, there is a volunteer first responder crew in the island with advanced first aid. That being said, we do not recommend leviathan for people who have serious medical conditions, and it is worth considering the distance if you have severe allergies.
